Perfect Timing is a weekly photography project by two friends who met in college, became roommates and have been close ever since. We share a love for languages and travel, and although we're from the same southern state, we now live on different continents, balancing a demanding work life with a private life. We both agree that everything happens for a reason, whether we see these moments as positive or negative at the time, propelling us ahead or slowing us down. We hope you will join us each week, as we share little moments of Perfect Timing with you.

And now, with this post, a year has passed. A wonderful time, full of 'Perfect Timing' and sometimes not so perfect timing, but all in all that is the beauty of life.

To my dear friend Madalena, this has been a joy to do this project with you. Looking forward to the next!

This is actually not a current photo, but one shot in Spain in 2003 on film. Yup, that's right analogue. I've been interested in photography my whole life, but at this particular time in 2003 I had no clue about photography - no idea about lighting, what good composition meant, etc. Only thing I new was that I loved taking photos. The original unedited photo looks quite different than this one I've added a smaller version below so you can compare. So, it has really been fun lately to go back through old photos, edit them and see them with new eyes.

Recently enjoyed an afternoon at a style exhibition, Stijl DesignMarkt, here in Munich. It was not only a joy to walk around and see all the beautiful things that these creative individuals had made, but it also gave my husband and I some time to just sit back, enjoy the moments and watch all the super stylish people. Great day all around. And if anyone living in Germany is interested in some of the up and coming designers and is interested in supporting locals, you've got to check out the next Stijl DesignMarkt in your area.

An ongoing personal theme every year...my favorite season: fall. I wrote about it last week as well, so I'll try and spare the repetitiveness. But such a wonderful time of year - the crisp air, beautiful colors. Not quite sure why, but fall always gives me a sense of rejuvenation and energy as well as a great appreciation for the beauty in nature.

So enjoy it folks. Before you know it the leaves will be gone and there'll be snow on the ground.

Apple | iPhone6s

Just a bit of street photography this week on my lunch break. As the new iPhone6s is coming out tomorrow I thought it would be interesting to see how the line outside the store in Munich had developed. The line wasn't quite as long as the one for the Apple Watch, but still quite a crowd out. And it was rewarding to take the time out of my day to do something for photography. Again, a lifelong lesson which I am constantly reminding myself of - take the time now. The perfect moment or perfect timing isn't necessarily going to come - I have to make it.

First week back from vacation. Slowly but surely starting to get settled back into my regular routines. Which is a great feeling, but at the same time causes the feeling that vacation was ages ago. So, to try and savor some of those memories, I had a look through the many photos I shot over the two weeks. The one below, as simple as it is, is a great reminder of what was a beautiful day.

How often do you take time to flip through old photos?

This morning I was up earlier getting ready for work & while in the bathroom putting on my make-up I felt like I wasn't the only one in my tiny bathroom. ...well, turns out I wasn't. Looks like this little guy wanted to escape the heat & must have snuck in during the night. I was so intrigued by him (or her) that we (he..her & I) wound up doing a 20 minute photo shoot.

Great way to start the day! :)

Again life's lesson that there is no perfect time to do something...at least in those moments they don't seem like the perfect timing.

However in hindsight it is in fact the best time.

This weekend two of the girls went outside to have a little fun with sidewalk chalk. At this time I was cleaning the kitchen and thinking about the ironing I needed to do next. But also deep down had the nagging thought that I should stop what I'm doing, go outside and spend a bit of time with them. I am glad that even though the house chores seemed more pressing (no pun intended) I took 10 minutes and went outside to watch and praise them for their chalk masterpieces. It was a good feeling - for them and for me too.

So lesson learned this weekend (again, I have to re-learn this one a lot) - take the time, even if in that moment it seems like it might bring more stress - in the end it is worth it.

Normally I leave work in the evening and head home in a trance - knowing my way home, having taken the same way for so long it's not necessary to think about it...or anything for that matter. But this week I forced myself to take my time on my way home, so with camera in hand I headed out the office door. I must say it was difficult I kept finding myself daydreaming and would have to pull myself back to reality, back to the moment I was in. And you know what? It paid off. I learned something. I found out that if you want to park in the city, well no better place than parking in your living room...  ;)

Playing around with light. Funny how such a seemingly small thing can make or break a photo.

For this particular photo their is was no perfect timing, and after hours of shifting 3 different lights only a millimeter back or forward, left or right, I still couldn't achieve the lighting I needed to (for one of my projects at school), but still enjoyed the process. Looking forward to the future projects and more experiments with light!

Several weeks ago I had a meeting in this building. My first time there and I was amazed when I walked through the front door and saw this magnificent staircase with a beautiful domed skylight. I was so impressed by this old, yet beautiful building that I had to go back last week and take a few photos. Even though my schedule was so hectic the idea of trying to squeeze in any time to leave the office to shoot this stressed me, but I am so glad that I took the time anyway. Unfortunately I couldn't capture the feeling of awe you get when actually standing there, but nonetheless, it was worth the time - here it is.

This past weekend was the first weekend of the year where my husband & I got to spend some quality time together - just the two of us. Our schedules lately have been even more tight and stressful than normal so this weekend was really perfect timing.

We are quite a busy family and don't actually get to see one another daily. So these moments are for us precious and we do everything we can to make the most of it and soak up every second.

Saturday was a date day...and night - movies, dinner, cocktails....and Sunday we spent hiking in the Alps. Here is just a taste of the breathtaking landscape.

We both agree that everything happens for a reason, whether we see these moments as positive or negative at the time, propelling us ahead or slowing us down. We hope you will join us each week, as we share little moments of Perfect Timing with you.

A bit of life in the (beautiful) snowy winter. Eyes open, folks. Beauty is all around us, even if only in the detail.

Oh, and, even though I'm enjoying the snowy winter (seriously, I really am), can't wait for spring. Bring on the sun and warmer temps!

Getting ready in the morning this week and noticed the fresh snow that had fallen the night before on our balcony. I had to take a second out of our hectic morning and try to hold this moment.

Timing is rarely perfect. It's in our hands, along with our attitude - our perspective, to make it perfect...or at least special.

Sometimes perfect timing is making the time, even if you don't feel like it, to go outside for a walk with your family (or insert here whatever it is that is keeping you from enjoying life).

Make the time, then let yourself slip into that moment - those precious moments that go by far too quickly.

This week, as many since the beginning of the year, has been consumed by work. But I had a cool moment last night where I reflected on all that has happened the past few years.

You know what they say - hindsight is 20/20.

In this moment I thought about all the different things that have lead me to the place I am today.

Sometimes it is difficult to remain patient and know...trust...that there is a bigger plan that I am a part of, but I do really believe that. And taking the time to think about everything that has happened and where I stand today - I couldn't be more grateful for how everything has played out.

I am grateful to my parents for countless things, but my one of my favorites would have to be a deep fascination for plants, trees and flowers. By sharing their knowledge with me I have developed a strong passion and ability to recognize and appreciate the beauty that surrounds most of us daily.

You know the old saying to "stop and smell the roses"...well don't forget about enjoying the rest of it. :)

Perfect timing for me is this...or time well spent. Exactly this. These things on my desk. Only thing missing is my camera. Kind of needed it to shoot. ;)

This is my Mac, my Jahresweiser, and my most prized possession (well one of them) a sewing box that my sweet sweet husband refurbished for me and all of my beloved pens and stationary in which it holds.

This is one of my favorite places in Germany - Sankt Peter-Ording. My family and I try to make it here at least twice a year. Every time I am there it is almost as if time stands still.

We were lucky enough to get to spend an afternoon there this week. Glad I got to soak up every minute of it. :)

Love having this time to spend with family! Trying to soak up every precious minute. With the new year just around the corner the every day hustle and bustle will be back soon enough.

This week I've spent bedridden. Flu. Not exactly what I'd call perfect timing. This week my husband and I had vacation, our first week off together with no kids this year and also the week of our wedding anniversary. Out of all the weeks of the year I had to get the flu this week, and quite a bad case. So this shot was my view for the week.

But you know what? That's life. It is what it is. Sometimes life throws us curveballs. It's going to happen, no one can avoid it. Sometimes it's something small like the flu, sometimes it's something big like the death of loved one. It is just all matter of how you handle those curveballs when they come - your attitude, your perspective. Life is short. The more positive you can see it the better it will be.

Busy. Insanely busy. Work. Work. Work. Not sure life could be any busier than it is now. ...but I love it. Plus doing it in front of our Christmas tree in our warm cozy home helps.

This is 1 of 20+ mini gingerbread houses made from scratch by my husband. One of the girls had a birthday a few days ago and she wanted mini gingerbread houses that she could take to school for all the kids in her class. As all of the culinary creations from my husband, they turned out perfectly. It was almost a full-day project, with a bit of stress, a lot of candy and four hyper and very excited kids.

There are moments in life where you are just trying to get something done. You have a project / task in front of you and you just want to rush through and complete it. Some of these projects are fun ones. Sometimes easier said than done, but the fun ones are the ones we need to slow down and enjoy. Enjoy the process, enjoy the excitement.

The more I travel the more I learn to appreciate the beauty in the train stations in Germany. This particular shot below is from the main station in Berlin. No matter how often I am there, or how tired I am when I arrive it is always one of the stations that stops me in my tracks (no pun intended) - six floors, a mass of metal. Steel and iron combined with glass creates not only the obvious industrial feel (which I am fond of) but there is something majestic, something mysterious about it. Maybe it is just the simplicity of the architectural design or the fact that these massive structures house countless stories of the travelers who wander, walk, run and wait day in and day out beneath its heavy beams.

Next time you are traveling, whether for business or pleasure I would encourage you to stop, slow down and find the beauty in your surroundings. It's there, sometimes you just have to look a little harder.

Savour the Moment.

Week 3/52

Perfect Timing is a weekly photography project by two friends who met in college, became roommates and have been close ever since. I spent approximately six hours walking around in Munich one day this past week trying to find locations to get in a few shots for one of two projects I am working on this semester; this project is entitled "Glauben"*. The majority of my scouring took place in breathtaking churches located through out downtown Munich. The cathedral in the picture below was the last one I visited that day.

I almost skipped going to this beautiful place. Since it was the end of the day, I was already near a metro station - tired, feet hurt and was chilled to the bone after so many hours outside, but I had this feeling that I wasn't fully satisfied with all the photos I had taken. I wasn't satiated.

Boy, was I glad I didn't go home. Even though I started my search right at daylight all of the cathedrals already had individuals there - either tourists taking in the sights or believers spending quite time praying and contemplating...all of the churches except for this one. As I walked in this peaceful space was filled with a soft yet powerful sound of the organ. The organ, as in most cathedrals I've seen, was massive and located in the back of the church on a balcony and took up most of the length of the wall. However since it was located were it was I never saw the person who was playing.

I recognized what a great opportunity it was to have this peaceful serene moment and savoured every second of it, just sitting on the steps and in the pews in this massive work of art.

Recognize the moments when they present themselves. Savour each precious second. Life is short. You never know when those next moments will come again.

*Glauben is a German word which translates to belief in English.

As life gets busier and busier sometimes it is necessary to just stop. Get out of the city, away from the hectic push and pressure to do more and move faster. Stop and enjoy the beauty sounding us. Enjoy the stillness, the quite. And in these precious moments be thankful.
